Quick Look

India is now the 3rd largest Natural Rubber producer in the World and the leader in productivity. The rubber plantation sector in the country is dominated by small holdings, almost 10 Lakhs in number, 88 % of the area and production come from small holdings. Rubber plantation provides raw material for the product manufacturing industry. In India, 72.2 % of the production is processed as Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS). Block Rubber, Concentrated Latex, Crepe Rubber and others account for 9.8%, 10.5% and 7.77% respectively.

In this background, the Kerala State Rubber Co-operative Ltd., otherwise known as RUBCO, proposes to launch a comprehensive scheme to interact with the farmer directly with processing and other support facilities so that small and marginal farmers can avoid the cumbersome process of sheet making in their small holdings. Since small holdings are only between 0.5 to 2 Ha, generally, and do not have infrastructure facilities, it is very difficult for them to make quality sheets. In the international market the quality of the sheets are very important. With this in view, we are presenting a technology oriented farmer based market plan under the name and style of project 'RUFAAS'.

RUFAAS - Objective
Modernise the sector to achieve high efficiency in production and marketing
To ensure remunerative price to small holders
Product and Process - An Overview
The project envisages a three tyre processing and marketing structure to procure and process small holders latex into
1 Quality Sheets (RSS)
2 Preserved Field Latex (PFL)
3 Quality up gradation of un dried /un smoked sheets
RUBCO established 10 number of three dimensional package (I Phase) for value addition of latex and quality up gradation of Sheet Rubber. Each unit has the following facilities
1 Latex Up gradation and Sheet Standardization (LUSS)
2 Ammoniated Latex (AMAL)
3 Un dried sheet processing & up gradation (USER)
smoke houses having the capacity to hold 2600 Kg. sheet rubber
One for processing latex in RSS
Other for quality up gradation of un smoked / un dried sheets
Will be provided in each center.
The center will also have latex preservation tank of 6000 litre capacity

Operation
Field Latex required for the processing centre are collected through latex collection centers of RUBCO farmer's Club, and a minimum of 10 such centers are operated within 15 Km radius of each processing centre. Each Latex collection centre must collect a minimum quantity of 800 litre field latex per day
